RYA free third party liability insurance

Stand-up Paddleboarding, Windsurfing and Windsurf Foiling

To qualify for this insurance RYA members must have windsurfing or stand-up paddleboarding listed as a boating interest under preferences on their RYA account.

Bishop Skinner Marine arrange insurance protection for members of the RYA, by providing free Third Party Only insurance for the use of their windsurfing kit (including foil) and stand-up paddleboard whilst in the UK and abroad.

Worldwide cover is restricted to maximum of 30 days for any one trip. Liability cover limit restrictions apply to cover in the USA.  We would advise that if you are travelling to North America to take part in Stand Up Paddleboarding, Windsurfing or Windsurf Foiling that you contact the Bishop Skinner Marine team on 0204 579 2080 to discuss the cover you require and to ensure it is adequate for your needs.

This insurance covers RYA members for their legal liabilities arising from their ownership and use of the board, which includes racing cover.

Important Information

The definition for Paddleboard has been extended to also include boards that are fitted with an electric motor that is fitted as standard by the board manufacturer, not exceeding 400w. 

The following additions have been made to the policy wording effective from 1st October 2024.

Definitions

North America” The United States of America and Canada or any other territories within their jurisdiction.

“Paddleboard” means the hull, fittings and paddle used to propel it and a single electric motor, if fitted as standard by the board manufacturer, not exceeding 400w

Subject to Your Paddleboard having been professionally manufactured with a motor and not having been adapted or modified from its original intended use.

Your motor propellor must be enclosed within a suitable guard or cage

If your Paddleboard motor is powered by lithium-ion batteries, you must comply with the following conditions:

·  The batteries must be charged during daylight hours.

·  The batteries must not be left unattended whilst being charged

·  The batteries must be used, stored, charged and maintained in line with their manufacturer’s guidelines and recommendations

·  The batteries must be charged with the charging equipment supplied or approved by their manufacturer.

A Kill-cord to be fitted to the motor and operational at all times whilst Your Paddleboard is underway
